Zerg Overlords

I'm invigorated over the idea of this blog and I have the perfect post to set the tone for this blog. While I will focus on staples of Starcraft strategy, I'm a lifelong student and thus have no real issue deviating from well trodden paths in order to refine and hone my overall RTS ability. Tonights round of gaming offers the perfect unorthodox example.

The Zerg Overlord.

Oftentimes this unit serves only as a lazy attempt to pierce the fog of war, especially as a precursor to the Overseers. It seems to be played almost like a supply depot, simply to increase population cap.

Likewise, the Lair evolution is often played simply to achieve tier two units, wherein the Zerg player will proceed to massing Hydralisks and Mutalisks.

Yet in combination with a steady flow of vespene gas, the Lair evolution, and your unevolved Overlords, you can effectively create the Zerg equivalent of the roving Terran Dropship, earlier than the Terran analogy.

Using the Pneumatized Carapace (100 Min, 100 Gas) and the Ventral Sacs (200 Min, 200 Gas) you allow your Overlords to move faster and carry eight Zerglings or four Hydras.

Tonight, I effectively used this early game combination to destroy the SCVs at a Terran opponents main base and then his expansion.

Whether this is something familiar to you or not, it is not an oft used strategy in the Starcraft Battle.net. In the future, I hope to edit replays and post them to showcase the relevant strategies.

The Zerg Dropship: At the very least you'll give your opponents a shock.

Starcraft 2 Madness Launched!

Hello to the Abyss and any potential readers,

I've been looking for a way to legitimize the time I spend playing Starcraft 2 now that I've finally joined the madness. So I decided to start this blog to see if I can't get some hits but especially to share my journey as I enter the intense multiplayer Colosseum that is Blizzard's Battle.net and chronicle all the unique strategies that players use in their gameplay.

Here's to a good year,

Madness
